How Apple Pay Works at UK Casinos
Apple Pay is the digital wallet built into iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. You add a card from a participating bank to the Wallet app once, and after that you can pay without typing in card details. Apple’s list of participating UK banks includes the main high-street names, such as Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Halifax, NatWest, Santander and Nationwide, as well as app-based banks like Monzo, Starling and Revolut, although Apple notes that some cards from participating banks may not be supported. At an Apple Pay casino the money still comes from the bank account behind your card: Apple Pay is simply how you approve the payment.
Depositing with Apple Pay
- Open the casino’s cashier, choose Apple Pay and enter the amount.
- Check that the card shown is a debit card, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
- Once the payment is approved, the casino adds the money to your balance.
Apple Pay works in Safari and in apps, and Apple says it also works in some other browsers with participating merchants. Only debit cards will go through: UKGC-licensed operators must not accept payment for gambling by credit card, a ban in force since 14 April 2020 that also covers credit cards used through e-wallets. If the default card in your Wallet is a credit card, switch to a debit card before you confirm.
Withdrawals to Apple Pay
This is where casinos differ most. Apple Pay supports payouts, and payment providers let operators send money back to the card used through Apple Pay, so some casinos pay withdrawals to the debit card linked to your Wallet. Others don’t offer Apple Pay withdrawals and pay you by debit card or bank transfer instead. Either way, the casino processes your request first, and since 31 October 2021 UK casinos haven’t been allowed to let you cancel a withdrawal request to carry on playing.
Once the casino has approved and sent a card payout, a standard payment usually takes one to five working days to reach your account, while instant card payouts can arrive within 30 minutes where the casino and your bank support them. Treat these as typical times, not a promise.
Limits and Fees
Apple doesn’t charge any fees when you use Apple Pay. Minimum and maximum deposits are set by each casino, and your bank’s own card limits still apply. If a casino charges a withdrawal fee, UKGC guidance says it must reflect the real processing cost and be made clear before you deposit, and you can’t be charged for withdrawing your whole deposit balance.
Since 31 October 2025, UKGC-licensed casinos must prompt you to set a financial limit as early as possible, with setting a limit as the default option. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately, while raising one needs a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours.
Bonuses and Apple Pay
Since 19 January 2026, wagering requirements on UK casino bonuses have been capped at 10x, and offers that require two or more types of gambling, such as betting and slots, have been banned. Payment rules still vary: some welcome offers only count debit card deposits, and casinos don’t all treat Apple Pay the same way, so read the excluded payment methods in the bonus terms, or ask support, before your first deposit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- No card details to type: each payment is confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
- Your actual card number isn’t shared with the casino.
- No fees from Apple.
- Supported by the main UK high-street banks and many app-based banks.
Cons
- Only works on Apple devices.
- Not every casino pays withdrawals via Apple Pay.
- Credit cards in your Wallet can’t be used for gambling.
- Whether an Apple Pay deposit qualifies for a bonus varies between casinos.
Is Apple Pay Safe for Casino Payments?
Apple doesn’t store your original card numbers. Each card is given a Device Account Number, kept in the Secure Element on your device and never on Apple’s servers, and for payments in apps and on websites Apple keeps only anonymous transaction information, such as the approximate amount. The payment method is only part of the picture, though: play at UKGC-licensed casinos and set your limits before you start.
Alternatives to Apple Pay
- Mastercard debit card: pay with the card itself, for deposits and withdrawals.
- Trustly and pay by bank: pay straight from your bank account, with withdrawals paid back to it where offered.
- PayPal: an e-wallet, so the casino doesn’t need your card or bank details.
- Paysafecard: prepaid 16-digit codes, so you can only spend what’s on the code.
- Pay by phone bill: deposits added to your mobile bill, capped by the networks at £40 per payment.
